Daisy Pulls it off!

Harrogate-based amateur dramatics group Woodlands, is putting on an ‘absolutely scrummy’ production of ‘Daisy Pulls It Off’ at The Harrogate Theatre Studio this June.

The comedy directed by Julie James and written by Denise Deegan, is a comic spoof of a bygone era of jolly hockey sticks, schoolgirl pranks and midnight feasts set in an elite 1920’s English girls school.  The play follows the adventures of super-achiever Daisy Meredith, the first ever elementary school pupil to win a scholarship at Grangewood Girls School.  But life does not run smoothly for Daisy as she fights to keep her place and her honour against the snobbish behaviour of school cronies Sybil Burlington and Monica Smithers.

he original production of ‘Daisy Pulls It Off’ was produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber and enjoyed a long and successful West End run.  It also won an Olivier Award and The Drama Theatre Award for Best Comedy.

This production sees Woodlands celebrate its forty-third year since its beginnings in 1969 at Woodlands School in Harrogate and has grown today to over fifty members.  ‘Daisy Pulls It Off’ is the first of two plays the group will perform at The Harrogate Theatre Studio this year.  In previous years Woodlands has performed ‘Equus’, ‘Habeas Corpus’ and ‘Our Day Out.’  The Group also reached this years quarter-finals of the All England Theatre Festivals North Central region.

‘Daisy Pulls It Off’ is running from 20 to 23 June.  Tickets are available from Harrogate Theatre Box Office on 01423 502116 or online http://www.harrogatetheatre.co.uk/whatson.aspx
